Quote: Bible verse– Romans 5:3-8 : Not only so, but we also glory in our
sufferings, because we know that suffering produces perseverance; perseverance, character; and character, hope. And hope does not put us to shame, because God’s love has been poured out into our hearts through the Holy Spirit, who has been given to us. You see, at just the right time, when we were still powerless, Christ died for the ungodly. Very rarely will anyone die for a righteous person, though for a good person someone might possibly dare to die. But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.

My idea of happiness is:
When everyone around me feels loved and accepted

What motivates/inspires you:
It’s hard to put into words because it’s hard for me to really understand, but I think what motivates me is my faith. I want to honor God in all that I do. That doesn’t mean that I’m going to be saying a prayer in the middle of my hit, it means more along the lines of that when things get hard and I want to give up, I remember the life and sacrifice that Jesus endured for all of us and don’t give up, but push harder. It means that I run to the far side of the gym to pick up that ball even when I just played an hour of volleyball, and it means supporting, uplifting, and
encouraging my teammates.

What was the greatest compliment you’ve ever received?
My contagious enthusiasm and love for life and others

One thing I have to do before I turn 25:
Go on a missions trip

Post-college/career plans:
Get my masters and then a PhD in public health and maybe work for the CDC

Biggest pet peeve:
When things aren’t put back where they belong after someone is done using it

If you were stuck on a deserted island, name 3 things/people you’d have to have with you to survive: Bible, Knife, Water Filter

Three things you think your closest friends would say when asked about you as a person: Confident yet modest, hard working, kind-hearted

What is your greatest achievement in your life thus far? Hiking all of the ADK 46 highest peak or making it into the Honors College at Geneseo

If you could be ANYONE other than yourself for a day, who would it be and why?
Joy Huseland because she is the most selfless, loving, patient, understanding, and inspiring person that I know. She devotes her life to 72 girls a week for 8 weeks every summer and is such an important role model in these girls lives. Never has she ever said one mean thing about another person and she is so wise and a great listener.

What are you most looking forward to in your time at Geneseo?
Everything! Volleyball, learning about science and culture and medicine, making friends that I can someday call my life long friends, and being a part of the great Intervarsity organization.

Summer’s Been Great…But Now it’s Time to Play Volleyball!

Hey Guys! MK here, sophomore Libero/DS on the Geneseo Volleyball team. My summer on good old Long Island has been pretty basic.

I waitress in a little diner by my house, shoutout Setauket Village unnamed(5)Diner, and lucky for me my shifts at are usually in the evening so there’s plenty of time during the day to hit the beach. At the beach my friends and I always bring the essentials: towels, sunscreen, spikeball, and skimboards. We always find a way to play spikeball, even if we go to the beach with less than four people, by making friends and of course we also make sure to always win. We also always make sure to skimboard. Ever since we saw a little boy doing cool skimboarding tricks on the beach, it has been a goal of ours to be able to do the same before the summer ends. As you can tell, it doesn’t take much to keep us entertained and we hate to sit still.

The highlight of my summer was definitely spending a week out in Montauk. My grandma owns a house out there and every summer without a doubt, my family stays there for a week . It’s always the best week of the whole summer. All of our friends come out and the house is always so crowded. Imagine a family with four kids and each of us invites at least 3 friends plus their family’s. People end up sleeping in the kitchen the house is so full. Despite the lack of space, everyone has the best time spending the day at the beach,  coming back to the house playing card games and eating dinner and then heading back to the beach for a campfire at night. It was such a chill, laidback week and I look forward to it every summer.

I also got to see my suitemates from school this summer which was so much fun. Most of them live upstate, so they visited Long Island and we went to the beach, the city and just hung out. We walked the highline and went to the museum of illusions.  It was so nice to see them. I’m so excited to get to live with them this year so we can hang out every single day.

Not only did I see my suitemates, but I also saw some of my teammates at the Geneseo elite volleyball camp. It was so nice to go up to school and see my friends and Coach and spend some time in the gym this summer. Shrader gym never fails to give me good vibes and put a smile on my face. Going up to school to work the volleyball camp only made me ten times more excited for preseason to begin.

To finish my summer up I am working a volleyball camp with Gabby, my fellow teammate, and then it’s back to the magical place I get to call home for the school year, Geneseo.

With all these fun activities going on, I have also been making time to get to the gym and work out so I can be prepared for season. I have also been playing in beach tournaments as much as possible because I can’t stay away from volleyball for a whole summer.

This summer has been great, but I cannot wait to be back in the gym with my best friends playing the game that I love.

Let’s make this season one to remember boys!

Summer 2019 – Kat Vernon

Hello everyone! For those of you who don’t know, my name is Kat Vernon and I am going to be a senior (ew that is disturbing to hear, I still feel like a freshman). I am a right-side, psychology major/sociology minor. I’m very excited to be back in Genny in just a short 10 days!

This summer has been amazing, definitely my best one yet. I’m working at two internships and doing some tax paperwork/data entry for my dad on the side. One internship is at the Mt. Hope Family Center where I help out with the Adult Health Study. We’re studying the long term effects of child abuse/poverty/other stressors on biological and mental health as an adult. It’s really sad but I’m learning SO much and work with some really fun people. At my other internship, I am the Human Resources Intern at Tompkins Financial. I am working on various projects there and it’s been a really different, but great and super cool experience!

Now here comes the fun stuff. Instead of writing about it, I made a little video on my YouTube channel to show you guys some of the things I’ve been up to.

So without further ado, click the link below to see how my summer has been going! Don’t forget to #like #comment #subscribe!
