Hi everyone ! Hope you’re all enjoying your summers just as much as I am!! I’m Erina Nanavati and I am a rising sophomore (which is wild). I can’t wait to get back to my favorite place and people, but being home has been pretty nice 🙂

When I first got home from school, I got a job working for the YMCA’s after school care. I did this every day from 2:30 to 6 for about a month and a half. It wasn’t always the most laid back job, but I loved being around the kids and getting to do different activities with them. It was also my first real job(other than babysitting) so my favorite part about it was actually having some money !! The other “job” I have every summer is working a camp for kids with cancer or cancer in their families. I put quotes around job because it is one of the most fun weeks of my summer every year. Since I’ve been working it for a few years I know a lot of the kids that come back so it’s fun to see how much they’ve grown and do a bunch of fun stuff with them!! This summer we did anything from hanging out and coloring, to going to the movies and going to the amusement park Seabreeze !

I’ve had a few big events happen over the past few months as well. My sister kieran went to her junior prom and my cousin Reena graduated from high school! These, while exciting, made me feel old :/ But despite me feeling this way, it was fun to watch both of them get ready for prom and go to their pictures and see Reena walk across the same stage I did last year!

On top of these, we had a HUGE family reunion in Baltimore in July. My dad is Indian and every 2 years we have a get together with all of his extended family, which are usually large in Indian families. You might be thinking, oh how nice what a lovely tradition seeing all your family. Well, there were about 130 of us at this reunion. And even though we’ve been doing this for a while, I STILL don’t know everyone. But, it’s always great to get together and see everyone (even though it sometimes stressed me out). We went to an orioles game, swam and even had a VERY intense family softball game (we are all pretty competitive). But the best part was hanging out with all of my cousins, there’s 8 of us that are really really close, and close in age so whenever we get together it’s always such a fun time, even if we’re not doing anything !

Last but not least, the best weekend of the summer consisted of me and my fellow upstate sophs taking the long trek to the one and only LONG ISLAND (best known for the LIRR, pizza, bagels and of course, Billy Joel) Our LI peeps had been telling us all year that “upstate was not real New York” and obviously we did not believe them, but we figured we had to go and find out:) So, we traveled by 4 cars and 2 trains and finally ended up ~on~ (not IN) the island. It was so much fun being able to hang out,go to the beach, and see everybody’s home towns. On top of that, the rising juniors surprised us and came down the same weekend so we got to see them too!

my fave people ❤️

The rest of the summer has just been chilling with friends and family which is always nice 🙂 I’m looking forward to the upcoming weeks because my family and I are going to Paris and Barcelona in August! It’s going to be such a fun trip and I can’t wait to tell everyone about it! After that it’s just getting ready for school!! I hope you all savor these last few weeks because they go by so so fast! We’ll be back at genny in no time :)))))

The Last Summer

Hello everyone! My name is Emily Ast and I can say that both sadly and excitingly I’m going into my Senior year at Geneseo (I actually cannot believe that this is my last year). But, since this is my last real summer before I enter the working world, I’ve made sure that this has been an completely eventful, busy, and very exciting time.

My brother and I before eating an incredible meal at the Western Door

So, to start my summer I came home and sort of unpacked all of my stuff from school. (Half of my apartment is still sitting in my garage). But after just a few days home I was off to Vermont with my dad, to take him on a business trip. He had knee surgery towards the end of the school year, so my job the first two weeks of summer was to be his personal assistant, but we had a lot of fun. We took a trip up to Church St. in Burlington for our first day in Vermont for dinner, and I took a trip to the Ben & Jerry’s Factory while he was at his meeting the next day. Although we were there and gone in just two short days, it was fun to spend some quality time with my dad after being gone for so long, and we got to enjoy the beautiful ride through both the mountains of Vermont and the Adirondacks on the way home.

Later that week we were off again, but this time just to Syracuse. While my dad went to his meeting and I got picked up by my good friend MADISON KOSUDA. We drove to her hometown of Utica and she showed me all of her favorite things to do. We ate some really great food, hung by the pool, walked her dog at Hamilton College, and took a nice ride in her mom’s convertible. Even though I just lived with her the week before, it was great to see her and there was already so much to catch up on already!

But my journey to see some of my best friends was not over yet. I took a trip out to Keuka Lake with Madison a week or so later to visit Emma Lannon, a former volleyball player. We hung at her lake house, went kayaking, and had a good time catching up before she was off to spend the summer working on a safari in Africa.

A sunrise on Keuka Lake

Soon after I came home it was time to hang out with Sarah Bain, aka my best friend, 3-year roommate, and soon to be married! I went wedding dress shopping with her and she found the one! The wedding is a little less than 1 year away and I can’t wait to see her get married (I get to be a bridesmaid!!!!). But, first we had her engagement party, where we went to her Maid of Honors house and enjoyed dinner and games.

Sarah Bain and her fiancé Mark!!! Congrats!

During the beginning of my summer when I wasn’t traveling around to see my friends I was busy working at a panini stand in downtown Buffalo, and taking a summer class, Intro to Audit. After a few short weeks of paninis, class, and hanging with friends it was time to get started with my internship!!

So I was off to Pittsburg for a week of training where I made some incredible friends and ate a ton of good food. We trained from about 8:30-4, then the Buffalo and Rochester interns got to spend the rest of our free time having fun and exploring Pittsburg. For our last night we got tickets to a Pirates game, and spent the night just hangout at the hotel having a great time. But the following week was the beginning of what will hopefully be my life after college. I am working as an Assurance Intern at PwC, an accounting firm, at their Buffalo office. I’ve been super busy working full time and learning what my role is in performing an audit and quarterly reviews. Although it can be super confusing at times, I’ve gotten the opportunity to meet a lot of really incredible and intelligent people! There was even a firm-wide shutdown the week of the 4th of July which was awesome, and allowed me to finally get a little bit of a tan. During the week a few fun things I did were taking a day trip to Toronto with my boyfriend and walking over the border to Niagara Falls for a night.

But besides my internship I’ve been enjoying this HOT summer when I have time off by my pool, on my boat, with my family and friends, playing some volleyball, and getting in the work outs. Just last weekend we took a trip to Cleveland to watch the Yankees, who sadly lost. The rest of my summer will be spent enjoying these beautiful days and getting ready for preseason. I have one last super fun thing planned which is that I get to go to Disney if I get a job offer at the end of my internship! I already have my flight booked, so all I’m waiting on is the offer to go!

So, everyone who’s made it this far, thanks for reading all about my final college summer and I cannot wait to see you in a few short weeks! Enjoy everyday we have until we get back because these amazing college summers only last so long. And to our new freshies, I can’t wait to play with you guys! So to all of my teammates, old and new, and you too coaches, I can’t wait to enjoy my final season with you! I can just feel that it is going to be an incredible year! Now off to the gym!

Love you all so so much,

Emily (:

Summer Daysss:)

Helloooo everybody!! I am rising sophomore OH/DS, Alex Frank, but still always tell people that I am a freshman at the best college ever. This summer has been all about enjoying the sunny days, friendships, and of course the sport I love the most.

My happy summer started off the day I got home with my best friend, Aimee, being declared officially in remission from cancer!! Since then, we’ve been trying all new things from exercise (totally kidding.. maybe) to Original Grain, and saving up money to go sky diving next year! On top of that, I have been to three country concerts this year- Kenny Chesney, Keith Urban, and ZBB- with Zac Brown Band being a HUGE Geneseo family reunion with like 50 athletes and my dear teammates, Abby May and Bridget.

As everyone else already included in their blog, most of our team and some of our roommates (shoutout Kelly and Liv) took an awesome trip to long island where we got to experience traffic, bagels, and some needed quality time with the team<3… I already miss them and can’t wait to see them soon!! We got to experience Ralph’s ice cream at Kiersten’s, the sophomores “surprising” us at Shea’s, and Gabby’s beautiful beach.. Oh and Allison being burnt to a crisp.

Besides the adventures, all kinds and any kinds of volleyball are my favorite thing in the summer. You can catch me at Sharkey’s five nights a week reffing or playing (I’m really  not kidding). I’ve been doubles partners with my teammate/BFF, Bridget, for two years and we’ve been constantly pushing each other to be better and learn the game. This year, we won the advanced doubles championship at Sharkey’s as well as competed in NOVA and AVP tournaments. Also, this is my first year ever playing in a grass tournament. We won, I got to see Coach, and I learned that diving on grass hurts way more than diving on sand. Volleyball is just awesome and everyone brings their dogs to tournaments, which makes it even more awesome.

As much as I love summer, I can’t wait to be back in the gym with my boys working hard for all our goals. I miss you and love you all!! Until then (33 days but who’s counting), I’ll be playing and living it up:) Find me at Sharkey’s if anyone reading this ever wants to play pickup and please bring your dog!

Summer Blog :)

Hello everyone!! My name is Kiersten and I am a rising sophomore at the finest college in all of America. Although I am excited to go back to the best place with the best people, I am enjoying my time off very, very much.

My summer started off, as it always has for the past four years… working at Hewlett Point Park aka “The Hoint”. Since I was one of the oldies of the crew, I got to work part time before the pool and bay opened. During this time we would mow the lawn, pick weeds, untangle rope, sweep the pool, hang up large signs, and do any other maintenance task you could think of. To be honest, we spent most of our eight hours playing Rako or just catching up on our school years.

Since I was only working part time, I got to do some fun things with my friends. Early June, a few people and I went to a music festival on Randall’s Island. I got to see some of my favorite artists AND some fellow Geneseo vball gals ;). My favorite performer was definitely Khalid. It was a relaxing vibe and he is such a great singer.

Another adventure my friends went on was to the Botanical Gardens in Brooklyn. Sadly, I did not take that many pictures because I kinda just wanted to “be in the moment”. But let me tell you, it was gorgeous. I would say my favorite section is the desert plants. We don’t get to see those plants around NY so it was cool. It was SO COOL I decided to touch the cacti. Not the smartest decision because I kept finding prickles in my hand for like an hour (totally worth it).

The last hoorah before I started working full time was the visit from my upstate gals. Everyone and their mother have already spoken about this in their own blog but I’m going to repeat it because it was the best weekend of the summer. It was so great to see (mostly) everyone again!! It was also nice to see some non Geneseo vballers. Shoutout to Liv and Kelly.

The day the upstaters left, was the day I began working full time as a lifeguard and I have been full time every since. Working full time is not as terrible as it sounds. I FINALLY got my tan back and have a more structured schedule. We have also had a pretty exciting summer this year: a large dead fish in the bay, a seizure, a missing mom, and my first ever save! The Town of Hempstead has blessed us with an AMAZING crew to handle all the craziness.

IMG-0144.JPG              IMG-0190.PNG            IMG-0199.PNG

In addition to my lifeguarding job, I started working at a beach volleyball club called Power Advantage. I coach every Wednesday for three hours, grades 6-8. It is so nice to be in a volleyball atmosphere when I’ve been away for so long. It is also fun working with the kids in the club. They are friendly, energetic, and ready to play. I am so grateful I get to work while doing something I love!

After the workday whether it’s lifeguarding or coaching, I do a bunch of different things. Most of the time I will hang out with my boyfriend (and coworker) Jared. We have recently finished New Girl on Netflix and have now started Arrested Development. When we aren’t watching Netflix, you can catch us at our high school fields doing speed and conditioning drills, playing Super Mario Bros, or playing 1 on 1 basketball.

If I am hanging out with my friends from home after work, we usually watch movies. We watched a ridiculous Lifetime movie recently (if you have seen one you know why it is ridiculous). We also watched a scary movie on Netlfix the other day called Let Me In. It wasn’t really that good. My friends just love scary movies…personally I’m not that big of a fan.

With my work friends, we had some crew dinners and a crew pool party. All events were so fun and I cannot wait to have more in the future. I love the new people that have come in this year which include our new officers and our three new rookies (soon to be four with my sister Lindsay).  The newbies are great, but I love my old Hoint guards just as much. We have all grown up a lot and it is making me feel SO OLD that I am a fourth year guard and that all my friends are becoming ADULTS. But instead of thinking of that we will all enjoy our numbered days left at the Hoint together.

DISCLAIMER: None of these photos were taken on town time. Down time is town time 😉

Now that is pretty much all that has happened in my summer thus far. My future summer plans are to get recertified for lifeguarding (which is today if you are reading this on July 11th… pray I get my time), play in a beach volleyball tournament with Gabby (fellow GSUVB member), to have fun with friends and family, and to keep working hard.

To all returning and incoming Geneseo Volleyball members,

I hope you are having a lovely summer and are grinding out your Volts. There is only a mere six and a-half weeks until preseason. And if that isn’t hype enough for you, then I don’t know what is. BUT UNTIL THEN, enjoy your summer, get a nice tan, and stay hungry.

Summer lovin’ having a blast!

Hi everyone and happy July! For those who do not know me, my name is Shea Casey and I am a rising junior right side hitter/setter, and a Business Administration major (with a minor in Marketing) at my second home, most refer to as SUNY Geneseo. I CANNOT WAIT to return and see all my best friends in a short 6 weeks!!! One thing I think about every day is how much I miss every single teammate of mine, so it does not come as a surprise about how pumped I am for preseason and fall semester to begin! I’m also SO excited to live with some of my best friends in our new, super cozy apartment ~off campus~ 🙂

MY FAV PEOPLE!!!!!! (at my house lol)

This summer has been crazy busy I don’t even know where to start. As soon as I got home, I began working as much as possible. I have been working two jobs this summer: one at Rogers Village Beach on Dune Road in Westhampton Beach as a park attendant, and two at Mill Road Seafood Market in Westhampton as a counter clerk. Both jobs get very busy during the summer season, which is good for me since I need to save a bunch of money up for study aboard (which I hopefully plan on going on Spring 2019!).

My brother Andrew and I before this 8th grade graduation ceremony!

After the workday ends, besides just doing our VOLT workout program at East End Fitness, I compete on the beach Tuesdays and Wednesdays. I play 6s on Tuesdays and 4s on Wednesdays, which both help get in a lot of reps and only get my car a little sandy lol. I also try to go to my high school open gym practices, like many other Westhampton Beach H.S. alumni, to get some indoor practice. Both beach and indoor VB during the summer are competitive and SO MUCH fun. I get to see old teammates, while also teaching current middle and high schoolers some skills.

Me and my friends Shannon and Smiltene painting some cool dorm accessories!

When I’m not working or playing volleyball, I get to see my friends, go to the beach, eat some BECs (for those who need a translation-> bacon, egg, and cheese), go to the movies, go to concerts, and go on the boat! I always try to jam back my summers with as much fun as possible! But of course, I can’t forget about when MOST OF MY TEAMMATES CAME DOWN TO LONG ISLAND!

Us at Gov Ball right before seeing Khalid perform!!

First off, me along with three of my teammates, Gabby, Grace & Kiersten, went to the Governor’s Ball Music Festival in NYC! I’ve wanted to go to this music festival for years now, and we had such a great time! Two weeks later, most of the rising juniors and sophomores came down to L.I. to visit us islanders and spend some quality time together. It was awesome to have practically the entire team back hanging by the pool, playing some games, and just enjoying our time together. Sadly, they all couldn’t stay for the entire summer 😦 but we had such a great time, and I’ll see most of their faces at camp later this July. More recently something fun I did with my family was attend a Yankee Game sitting a close 3rd row to the field! We had a time even thought we were all dying of heat stroke till the game ended in the 11th inning.

My summer is jam-packed with so many things, it’s just flying by! Next week, I’m seeing one of my favorite country singers, Toby Keith, in concert for the second time! Also, Im trying to plan a trip to Six Flags with some friends before the summer closes out (just so you know I love rollercoasters), maybe even go on Kingda Ka! As you know I can go on and on talking, so I’ll just end things with love and miss you all, and can’t wait to squish all your faces!!!!!!!

Me and some really cool peeps 🙂

Summertime YAY!!

Hello all!! My name is Abby May (yes– two separate words). I am going to be a junior this year (2 years has never gone by so fast). My 2018 summer thus far has been very eventful and adventurous, right from the start.

Back in May, finals really wiped me out, as they did everyone. But instead of taking a couple days to relax, my family had other plans (always something goin’ on at the May house). For my first couple days home, I turkey hunted with my dad in the mornings, and went to a few of my cousin’s baseball games in the afternoon. My family and I spent my first weekend home in Cortland for my sister’s college graduation. Then, that following Monday, I started my new job at Timber Banks Golf Club.

Amanda’s graduation 🙂

Although I didn’t have much down time right when I got home, I had so much fun catching up with everyone and starting out my summer keeping busy. I would not have wanted it any other way, than to spend quality time with my family.

Soooo, as many of you know I love to spend time in the great outdoors. So here are some of the fun outdoor things I’ve been doing with my family and friends…

First is hunting and fishing. Me, my siblings, and my father have gone on numerous turkey hunting expeditions and fishing trips. In May, we took a trip to my hunting camp in North Pitcher.

Me and all my siblings (and my dog Maggie)                Me and a large mouth bass 🙂

One of my favorite places to be is our land up in Mexico, NY. We do a lot of hunting and land work there. We put a camper there recently, so we can camp out and hunt early in the morning without the drive. I recently learned how to use my dad’s tractor, which I absolutely LOVED. I learned how to brush hog (if anyone knows what that is).

Pic of me “workin the land,” as my dad would say 🙂

I have also gone on a few beach/hiking trips at a state park near me with my friends and family. Me and my sisters also love to play beach volleyball on our new backyard sand court that my dad made this past year.

Me and my sister Carly hiking (but actually taking a break on a bench lol)

As most people know by now, all of us upstaters took a trip down to Long Island! It was an absolute blast. It was so great to be able to see my teammates again, and go on some fun adventures. It definitely got everyone excited for August! Although driving through NYC traffic and Long Island rush hour was a bit of a challenge (as Sam and Kat would know), it was well worth it. We never fail to have the best time together. I would also like to say thank you to our host families, the Cergol’s and Casey’s. You guys are amazing!!

I plan on doing some shadowing of doctors, PA’s, NP’s, etc. this summer as well. I have two lined up already, so I’m pretty excited about that. I’m hoping to get a better idea of what part of the medical field I want to go into after college.

So much exciting stuff going on for summer 2018!!! All I have left to say is I am SUPER EXCITED to get back in the gym and smack some vballs around with the coolest group of gals I know. But I cannot forget about our cool newcomers this season. I can’t wait to welcome our new froshies of 2018 to the Geneseo Volleyball family. Let’s kick some booty this season boys…

Have an amazing rest of all of your summers!

P.S. Drink lots of water folks. We got some scorchers ahead. 🙂
